About ISRF
he Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation (ISRF) was inaugurated in August 1996 as a result of a request from the Tangaza College Board of Governors. The Institute was established to provide professional training to those preparing to minister in the area of Spirituality / Spiritual Guidance and the Formation of junior members of religious congregations. As the Institute continues to grow and adapt to the needs of our students and their congregations, we now offer a one-year Certificate in Spirituality as well as two-year diplomas in: (i) Spirituality/ Spiritual Guidance (ii) Religious Formation (iii) Spirituality. The same curriculum is available to those wishing to audit courses for personal renewal or for preparation of final profession. Also, through our partnership with the School for New Learning at DePaul University in Chicago, students with a diploma from our Institute can now apply to earn a bachelors degree through the DePaul BA programme offered at Tangaza College.
The Order of Discalced Carmelite Friars has recently assumed sponsorship of the Institute, to help insure the quality and continuity of its programmes.
OUR MISSION
The Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation is a sacred place of growth and resource that provides professional training for those preparing for the ministries of spiritual accompaniment and spiritual leadership as religious formators, spiritual guides or adult faith educators.
OUR VISION
Women and men called to the ministries of religious formation and spiritual guidance require a thorough education in theology, scripture, psychology and spirituality. Basic to the whole programme is the concern that all the students be led to an awareness of their own need for personal transformation.
The Vision Calls Us To:
- Provide our students with knowledge and deep sensitivity to the word of God.
- Engage our students with the traditional roots of their faith as Africans.
- Encourage our students to reflect on their personal journey and learn to discern the presence of God at work in the lives of others.
- Deepen the students’ understanding and knowledge of the Christian Tradition and how it shapes a person’s spirituality.
- Attend to the personal and spiritual development of the students by offering spiritual direction and counselling.
- Prepare our students for the different ministries of accompaniment and leadership by assisting them to acquire the skills of attentive listening and spiritual discernment.
CORE VALUES
Our core values which inspire our mission and vision are: respect, integrity, creativity,
a faith perspective and professional accountability.
