Scholarships
ISSIO grants five (5) scholarships to the Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation (ISRF) each year. MISSIO will grant scholarships to ISRF students only through our Institute and not directly in response to applications made through an applicant’s congregation.
SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
Application for these MISSIO scholarships must be made for each year of a student’s enrollment in ISRF, and do not automatically carry over from one year to the next. Only fully completed scholarship applications will be considered by the ISRF Scholarship Board. They are to be submitted to the ISRF Director who will then call a meeting of the Board, usually in late July. Therefore, those hoping to obtain financial assistance for studies beginning in August should submit their scholarship request before the preceding July. The Board may meet at other times during the year at the discretion of the ISRF Director.
Those eligible for scholarships include temporary and finally professed religious (as well as lay students and diocesan clergy preparing for ministries of spiritual guidance and formation) who have been accepted as full-time diploma students in the Institute. A full-time diploma student is one who is officially enrolled in the Institute for the full two-year programme and has fulfilled all the entrance requirements of the Institute.
Once a student has been accepted by the Institute, then his/her religious superior may make application for financial assistance. (Lay students may apply on their own behalf.) The religious superior must make application for financial assistance for each student belonging to his/her congregation individually. Group applications will not be considered by the Board.
The Board reserves the right to approve or deny applications submitted to it. Priority will be given to locally established religious communities which are struggling financially. Priority will also be given to those congregations which confirm that upon graduation from the Institute, the student will be engaged in ministries of spiritual accompaniment and spiritual leadership as religious formators, spiritual guides or adult faith educators.
In order to assess the needs of each applicant, it is important that the religious superior declare alternative funding, that is, other sources and options for his/her candidates if the application for scholarship is not accepted.
OTHER FINANCIAL AID
Because the Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation is part of Tangaza College, which is a constituent college of the Catholic University of Africa (CUEA), ISRF students may be eligible for other forms of financial aid through CUEA. In addition, Kenyan nationals may also be eligible for support through government programmes. Information on these options may be obtained through the office of the Deputy Principal of Student Life at Tangaza.
SPONSORS AND DONORS WELCOME!
The Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation is playing a crucial role in preparing those who will be the “foundations stones” for the future of the church and religious life in Africa. Because of our continued growth and the importance of our mission, we are always seeking additional scholarships and other assistance for students and congregations who might otherwise be unable to benefit from our programmes. We welcome your participation! Individual and group benefactors interested in helping to provide financial support for ISRF students are encouraged to contact the ISRF Director (isrf@tangaza.org).
