Mission of the Institute of Youth Ministry
Vision Statement
In response to the situation of the young,
inspired by the Salesian educative charism,
THE INSTITUTE OF YOUTH MINISTRY
is rooted in the conviction that the innovative and prophetic power of education
enables the young to be agents of transformation in the Church and society.
Mission Statement
THE INSTITUTE OF YOUTH MINISTRY AIMS at
the integral education and formation of the Youth Minister
so that the competence and professional qualification achieved,
may be placed at the service of the young,
thus contributing to the mission of the Church
for the benefit of the society in Africa.
Objectives
The above statements are translated into the following objectives:
1. To form members of the laity, consecrated men and women and priests, as agents of Youth Ministry with the following specialisations:
a. Professionals and Researchers in Faith Education
Youth Ministers capable of planning, coordinating, animating the educative action in pastoral and catechetical ambits addressed to children, adolescents and young people.
In specific areas of ecclesial activity: in church organisations, educational institutions, campus ministry, youth associations and movements. These persons can also be engaged in the direction of pastoral and catechetical offices at diocesan and local levels, and, as experts, for study and publication centres in the Youth Ministry sector.
b. Professionals and Researchers in Community Education
Youth Ministers with tasks of educational planning, cultural animation and preventive action in collaboration with parents/teachers, civil authorities, NGOs …
In specific areas of community education: Advocacy in youth policies, reach-out programmes (health, poverty alleviation, sports and leisure, environment), youth centres, cultural centres, schools, formal/informal educational institutions, literacy centres and centres for human promotion, youth associations, homes for rehabilitation of children and youth at risk.
2. To strengthen the commitment of the local church in Africa at all levels, in favour of the young, through the preparation of plans of Youth Ministry, which are efficacious and incisive in today’s social reality.
3. To contribute to the growth of society, through the development of an ever deeper educative reflection and adequate advocacy on youth situation.
