About Us

The Institute of Spirituality and Religious Formation (ISRF) was inaugurated in August 1996 as a result of a request from the Tangaza College Board of Governors. The Institute was established to provide professional training to those preparing to minister in the area of Spirituality / Spiritual Guidance and the Formation of junior members of Religious Congregations.

The institute has since then been entrusted to the sponsorship of the Discalced Carmelite Order to help assure the quality and continuity of its programs. ISRF continues to observe its original purpose which is to prepare those who will work in the areas of formation and spiritual guidance to be competent and confident in their ministry, especially those who would be working in the African context. The Institute then began offering diploma in religious formation/spiritual guidance and spirituality. The ISRF has been part of the Integrated Institutes of the School of Pastoral Ministry and Social Sciences (PAMISS) in Tangaza College, but recently the Institute has begun a process of greater collaboration with Tangaza School of Theology.

Finding the programs of the Institute enriching for personal spiritual growth and fitting for ongoing spiritual formation, some religious started taking our courses for the purpose of self renewal and preparation for final vows. Thus, a more general diploma in spirituality was added as a third option, especially for those seeking greater flexibility or taking the spirituality courses as part of their own religious formation.
